Dr Terence Lim is a Senior Consultant Urologist with a subspecialty in Uro-Oncology. He is also the Medical Director at Assure Urology & Robotic Centre.

Clinical Expertise​

Prior to his private practice, Dr Terence Lim spent almost two decades in public healthcare. He also served as the Senior Consultant and Chief of the Department of Urology at Changi General Hospital (CGH). 

Dr Lim is a strong advocate of improving patients’ clinical outcomes and safety with technologies and clinical initiatives. As head of the department, he initiated novel and innovative services to improve patient care, clinical outcomes and waiting time. Under his leadership, the Department of Urology in Singapore won the Department Quality Award, which was awarded based on objective measures of administrative and clinical outcomes for all the years he was HOD.

Dr Lim was also the director of CGH’s Advanced Surgical Centre, a committee dealing with complex surgeries, including robotic surgeries. He operated on all three generations of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System and is amongst the first few urologists in Singapore to operate using the recent generation of this technology. To date, he has been involved in over 700 robotic surgeries and was the first Urologist in Singapore to perform a robot-assisted Retzius-sparing Prostatectomy. Moreover, he is an appointed Visiting Consultant to CGH and is frequently asked to mentor his colleagues and subordinates for his expertise in robotic surgeries.

Dr Lim has a keen interest in Endourological and minimally-invasive Urological surgeries and is experienced in complex robot-assisted surgeries of the kidneys, bladder and prostate, like partial nephrectomies and radical prostatectomies. In addition, he was often called upon to perform multi-disciplinary robotic surgeries.

Furthermore, Dr Lim has a keen interest in clinical research and has, to date, published and participated in over 40 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He was also actively involved in several clinical innovation projects with various universities and polytechnics while he was in the public sector, leading to a few grants, prototypes and discussions with industries for potential collaborations.

Education and Training

Dr Terence Lim graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003.

He subsequently went on to obtain his membership to the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Masters of Medicine (Surgery). In 2011, he was accredited as a specialist in Urology by the Singapore Medical Council and was admitted as a fellow in the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Lim underwent his fellowship training in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. He was also on his institution’s Robotic Surgery Credentialing Committee and had helped to set up the robotic surgery programme at Changi General Hospital. In addition, Dr Lim was a key member of various integral committees in Changi General Hospital.

Medical Teaching

Dr Lim has a passion for mentoring and is actively involved in the education of medical students and residents. He was appointed as a Clinical/Adjunct Associate Professor at Dukes-NUS Medical School and Yong Loo Lin Medical School, as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Lee Kong Chian Medical School. He is also a certified instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support in the Singapore Arm Forces.

Alongside these invaluable contributions, Dr Lim is also actively involved in the training of future urologists in Singapore. He was a member of the Urology Residency Advisory Committee and Site Director (CGH) of the Singhealth Urology Residency Programme. Being a seasoned and well respected urology doctor in Singapore, he is frequently extended invitations to serve as an examiner for medical students who are completing their studies and for urology residents who are concluding their training.

Dr Lim is regularly invited to chair and hold lectures and presentations at various local and international conferences and has also been invited as a keynote speaker at a number of international and regional conferences.

Urology Society Involvement

Dr Terence Lim is actively involved in local urology societies in Singapore. He was a founding member of the Robotic Surgery Society of Singapore and a member of the Society for Men’s Health Singapore, among others. He is currently on the Exco-Committee of the Singapore Urology Association and is also a member of the Singapore Cancer Society Prostate Cancer Survival Advisory Panel.

Activities and Interests

Dr Terence Lim enjoys spending time with his family and travelling. He also enjoys reading fictional or self-improvement books and playing computer games. As an accredited specialist in urology and with years of experience on his shoulders, Dr Lim understands the importance of having an active lifestyle. Being active is an integral component of maintaining a healthy life and can have a significant and positive impact on the whole body, including the urinary system. Therefore, he ensures that he puts aside some time to jog at least three times a week.
